How to Solve the Problem of a Smelly, Clogged Drain

Clogged Drain No More

A clogged drain isn’t fun; it doesn’t add to the ambiance of your home. It is a messy headache that you have to deal with.  So what can you do?

First, try unclogging it with a plunger (also known as a plumber’s helper).  Keep one for your toilet and an entirely different one for your sink so you aren’t cross-contaminating with toilet germs in the kitchen. You will see a lot of varieties, but which works best for your is your choice.

Another solution is baking soda and vinegar. Just like your old grade school science experiment, you can use the power of the baking soda-vinegar reaction to clear a clogged drain. If you have standing water in your drain, this method will not work until the water has drained, so don’t try it with standing water.

For this method, first get a drain cover and have it on hand. Next, pour about a gallon of boiling water down the drain, and when it has cleared, pour ½ cup of baking soda down the drain. Now, keep the drain cover in one hand while you pour 1 cup of vinegar down the drain, covering it immediately with the drain cover.

The cover will force the chemical reaction down into the pipes where it can clear the clog. This chemical reaction is completely safe for pipes.

Again, as stated above, if that doesn’t work, call the plumbing professionals at Cass Plumbing of Tampa Bay.
